Settled and Pre Settled Status for EU Citizens

UK will be leaving from the EU. To protect the rights of EU citizens, UK government has announced two types of settlement scheme for EU citizens. You can either get a settled or pre-settled status depending on the length of your continuous stay in the UK. This will not affect your life and your rights in the UK.

Who can Apply?

EU citizens who have come to the UK before 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal and 30 July 2021 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, can apply for pre-settled or settled status. If they have lived in the UK, Northern Island, Channel Islands and Isle of Man for continuous 5 years, you can apply for settled status. You can still get benefits and your rights will remain the same. If you haven’t lived in the UK without a valid reason, then you might be eligible for pre-settled status. Your rights, in this case, will remain the same as well.

What are the Valid Reasons?

  • Have children who are born abroad
  • Suffer from critical illness
