Marriage Visitor Visa
What is a Marriage Visitor Visa?
A Marriage Visitor Visa allows individuals to travel to the UK for up to six months to get married or register a civil partnership. This visa is specifically designed for those who plan to visit the UK for their ceremony and then leave the country afterwards, rather than staying long-term.
The Marriage Visitor Visa is ideal for couples who wish to have their ceremony in the UK but intend to live elsewhere after their marriage or civil partnership is registered. The ceremony must take place at a venue that is licensed for this purpose in the UK.

How Does the Scale-up Worker Visa Work?
You must apply for a Marriage Visitor Visa if:
- You are not a British citizen or do not have settled or pre-settled status in the UK
- You intend to marry or register a civil partnership in the UK
- You plan to leave the UK after the ceremony
- You give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in the UK
- You meet the eligibility requirements
This visa is not appropriate if you intend to remain in the UK after your marriage. In such cases, a Family Visa or another settlement route would be more suitable.
You also do not need a Marriage Visitor visa if one of the following is true:
- You have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
- You have applied to the EU Settlement Scheme and have not received a decision yet
- You're an Irish citizen
