Global Talent Visa

Talent Visa, On the 8th of August 2019 it was announced that The Home Office will launch a new immigration visa which will substitute the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Route. Individuals with skills and experience in science, technology, engineering and similar will be eligible to apply (STEM fields). We may define this a significant step which will allow Britain to attract “best minds from around the world” and to enhance “the intellectual and knowledge base in the UK”.

The Changes to the Route

The government decided to review the existing restrictive criteria and scrap the cap for Tier 1 skilled immigrants; currently the limit is 2,000 a year. Also, the visa will not be subject to any minimum salary requirement and there will not be needed to secure a job. More importantly Home Office stated they will remove the Research fellowship Award requirement. Hopefully, because of the new relaxed rules the visa will become more popular.

It is impressive that the visa will be valid for three year in which applicants and their dependents will be able to enter and exit the UK without restrictions. At the end of the period the person will be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain provided certain requirements will be met. At the moment we still do not have the exact requirements. This will be published once the Home Office will put the changes to the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa.

Indefinite Leave to Remain After three years;
No minimum salary requirement;
No need of an employment offer;
Dependents will have full access to employment;
Removing the requirement for those endorsed as Exceptional Promise to have been awarded a prestigious Research Fellowship;
No cap limit;
